About Carsten Windler

I’m a hands-on Software Engineer and Engineering Leader with 20 years of experience building scalable web applications and leading high-performing teams across Berlin and remotely.

Throughout my career I’ve built teams, web apps, APIs, and architectures from scratch. By staying close to the code, I keep my skills sharp and gain a solid grasp of the requirements of the engineering teams. I’m also comfortable translating business strategy into concrete technical plans and working directly with non-technical stakeholders.

My professional roots are in PHP and cloud-native backends (AWS, Terraform, Laravel), but I’m tech-agnostic at heart. Clean architecture, solid engineering practices, and a culture of ownership matter far more to me than the language or framework.

I wrote the book Clean Code in PHP which covers expert tips and best practices for high-quality PHP code.

Beyond engineering, I care deeply about sustainability. I’ve spoken on green IT at conferences and published various articles. I created a LinkedIn Learning course on Green Coding fundamentals, too.
